We’re very excited to welcome Jeremy Kemper to the 37signals team. He starts next week.

Jeremy is the #2 contributor to Ruby on Rails and has been around since the dawn of the framework.

Jeremy comes to us from CD Baby where he was responsible for rebuilding much of their infrastructure and assembling their Rails team.

We’ve had our eye on Jeremy for some time. Since the early days of Rails, he’s always stood out as an obvious hire. So it’s fantastic that we’ve finally been able to make it happen.

We’ve got some great stuff planned. It’s going to be a blast to be able to work with Jeremy to get these things into your hands (well, on to your screens).

Welcome aboard Jeremy!

One of the most awesome things about creating an open source project and using it yourself is the benefits to the hiring process. When we hire programers at World Online, not do we have a large community of Django programers wanting to work for us, we also have months or years worth of their contributions to Django available to review. But usually that’s not even necessary, because we are already familiar with the top contributors in the Django community, just by way of them being involved in the community.

We didn’t open source Django so we could make better hires (and I’m sure you didn’t have that in mind when you released Rails, either), but damn, it sire is a nice side-benefit.

Definitely, Jeff. We wrote about this in Getting Real: Actions, Not Words.

sounds like he’ll make an excellent addition to the team. congrats.

hooray for internet meritocracies.

Congrats, Jeremy. Looking very much forward to what’s in store. As I’ve interacted with Rails teams and projects over the last couple of years, your name kept popping up. Now I know a bit of the backstory.

Zack 26 Jan 07

Congrats Jeremy and thanks for your thousands of contributions to Rails.

Andy Kant 26 Jan 07

Congratulations, Jeremy. I’m so jealous. ;-)

Good to see you guys adding great talent. Congrats! Will Jeremy’s help get Sunrise to my screen soon? The current CRMish offerings are so very painful to use after one has become devoted to Basecamp.

Keep it up guys!

makoto 26 Jan 07

congrats, does that mean that 37signals is growing and planning a new web service? or is he assigned to ‘minimalize’ basecamphq features too?

Congratulations Jeremy and 37signals. Looking forward to seeing what comes out this year.

And Jason, wasn’t CD Baby the site you highlighted in a SXSW talk several years ago, because it used pre tags to show search results super fast? I always loved that.

Is 37Signals a men only operation? and if so why?

JF 27 Jan 07

Yes, men only at this time. No reason, that’s just how it’s worked out so far.

Deepak 27 Jan 07

Great hire folks. Some of my friends have released records via CD Baby, a site I knew about before I ever knew what Rails was.

John Topley 27 Jan 07

Get that sidebar updated! ;-)

Ryan Bergeman 27 Jan 07

Very nice. Congratulations, Jeremy!

Ted 28 Jan 07

You might want to update “Who are 37signals?” on the ride side to include Jeremy.

Anonymous Coward 28 Jan 07

Are you guys blind? It says he starts next week. I’m sure the sidebar will be updated when he officially starts.

Did Marcel leave?
