Our local sports station interviewed this guy last week, really great story.

this is great. similarly, although i support obama wholeheartedly, it has been impressive to see a 72 year old take on the merciless schedule of a presidential campaign. it is a good time to be alive when being 70+ doesn’t mean you can’t play hard.

Joe: Totally. It blows me away that McCain can campaign like this at 72. I’m exhausted after 2 flights and a meeting over 3 days.

Wait a second… a healthy 73 year-old decides to play basketball and this is inspirational/newsworthy???

What’s newsworthy? In fact I think it’s pretty lame. I’m more impressed by the 73 year-olds who are working on amazing new scientific research projects, who are writing interesting novels, etc etc.

Not only that, but there are many many healthy 70~ year-olds that play sports.

I thought the YouTube video was a joke.. is it not?

@wtf: There are many healthy 70+ year olds that play sports. My dad is almost 70 and still runs marathons as well as plays tennis and basketball. He’s in better shape than I am and I’m no slouch! It’s inspirational though in that it reminds us that it’s never too late to try again, as well as contradicts the commonly marketed-to fear that we lose our physical and intellectual independence when we’re older. This man is living proof that it doesn’t have to be that way, if we don’t let it.

Out of curiosity, what do you find newsworthy? I’m a developer for a newspaper website and one comment I hear from visitors fairly often is ‘and this is newsworthy?’, so I’m always interested to hear what people consider newsworthy.

None of the 70 year olds in my life could do this; it’s always refreshing to me to see items like this to keep things in perspective for me.

I also marvel at how McCain has been able to persevere through his campaign. All politics aside, he’s a tough cookie.

I’ve never mistaken SVN for a ‘news’ site.

Haha, very inspiring. And he’s a white guy – there is hope :O)

Makes one wonder why we all aspire to retire early. If you love something enough, why not give it all you’ve got until the dirt hits your coffin? Something to think about.
