Quoted by Jason on October 28 2008:
Brown: So are you going to run for governor?
Barkley: I plan on it in 2014.
Brown: You are serious.
Barkley: I am, I can’t screw up Alabama.
Brown: There is no place to go but up in your view?
Barkley: We are number 48 in everything and Arkansas and Mississippi aren’t going anywhere.

I don’t care for Charles Barkley personally, but it for a state that ranks at the bottom in everything, someone running for office should have an attitude like his.

We need more people in office not beholden to others.

When asked why he needs to wait for 2014? - “Because you have to own a house in Alabama for 10yrs prior to running” - “Really?” - “Absolutely. That’s how behind the times we are.”

@ GeelWonder – Barkley’s actual words from the CNN trancript: “2014. You have to have residency for seven years. And I bought my house at the end of last year. And I will be eligible in 2014.”
I couldn’t find the “Absolutely. That’s how behind the times we are” or the “own a home for 10 years” parts in the transcript.

There was some crosstalk but it’s there. I saw it live.
It may be in an (indistinguishable/inaudible) quote, or a crosstalk section.
Anyhow.

But then again, he’s given the same talk 10 times on 10 different CNN programs, so it may vary.

Mississippi is a far better place than you think it is.
