I like the old svn, with longer, more insightful posts, not these new quick posts. I’d trade 10 of these short ones for a longer post, and I’d wait a week to see it too.

I disagree… I love the short posts when they’re insightful (which they usually are). As long as the longer posts don’t disappear I’ll be happy reading both.

I like both. The quick ones sometimes have more insight then alot of long winded crap that I expose myself to daily in the paper, and newsradio.

I completely agree. The value of the old SVN was from the more thoughtful posts. This feels like twitter, and we have enough twitter already.

We’re not replacing longer posts with shorter posts, we’re adding shorter posts to the line up. There are a lot of things we’d like to share with our readers but the old format didn’t really favor shorter, quicker ideas, links, quotes, etc. These new post types help us share more. They don’t impact long posts at all.
As far as Twitter goes, this isn’t a Twitter world (yet). A few thousand people follow our Twitter account yet we have over 100,000 people a day who read our blog. We don’t believe the short bits are only for the privileged Twitter few.

Jason, that’s a good point about short bits being for Twitter. Maybe that’s why I don’t follow anyone on twitter – I don’t need stuff like this. Of course, now that I know your intentions, I’ll just preview a bit better in my feed reader before clicking over to the website to read the posts I value.

When you guys do these short posts can you put a ‘Quote:’ or some other descriptor in the subject line as well so people giving their RSS feed a quick once over can separate the wheat from the chaff quickly.

Good quote, too bad Edison was a fool. He was a proponent of using DC current to power the country; grossly inefficient, requiring a battery station every 100 meters or so.
He was also the first to perform a [very grotesque] death by electrocution; in a desperate attempt to prove that AC power was too dangerous to use.
If he had his way, none of what we do today would have been possible. Imagine trying to power banks of servers with batteries.
