What we like lately Sarah Sep 24

Even though we don’t see each other everyday, our team still manages to trade normal water cooler conversation. Part of that is recommending products we use each day and trading our reviews in Campfire. Here’s a few we’ve all been enjoying:

Jason and Sam love their Jiffy clothes steamer because it makes them feel like they work in a very small dry cleaner.

If we’re in the office, we can’t avoid a walk over to Sip for a coffee fix. The rest of the time Jason and I consume large quantities of Sprite Zero.

After David and Jason got their AppleTV’s, I was convinced. Then I convinced Jeff, and we’re all quite happy.

Jeremy loves his masticating juicer and says it works better than any centrifugal juicer. Jason loves his Omega juicer, too. Jamis and Mark are on the fence in their juicer quest.

A few of us are excited about the release of Fitbit in a few months!

Now that Jeremy is working while standing up just like Jamis, he picked up an anti-fatigue mat after I recommended one. Unfortunately, he hates it. (Whoops!)

We all have company cards, but most of us are also using American Express for our personal accounts.

Jamis. Loves. His. Bandsaw!

Jason bought this simple sound machine after I mentioned how obsessed with it I am.

Jason, Jeremy and I are big Calexico fans. Sam and I are loving an album by Beruit and the Darjeeling Limited soundtrack. (Though my favorite work music is the soundtrack to Little Miss Sunshine!)

Big up to our friends at West Loop Gym where a few Signals and Coudals are happy members.

We’re also customers of the awesome Irv & Shelly’s Fresh Picks. Highly recommended if you’re in the Chicagoland area.

I recommend everyone that is a programmer/web developer to read it.

OR if your stuck in a rut and cant get something done. read it.

I absolutely LOVE my American Express card, and can’t speak more highly of them! I had a weird transaction occur a few months back, they called me within 30 minutes of them picking it up, and it was immediately reversed. They also followed up with me and were just plain awesome.

Also, did you know that if you purchase your hardware or other big buck items on the card (like my new MacPro) they add 1 yr of warranty to the item? Yep! They extend the AppleCare on your purchase (for a total of 4 yrs) and all you have to do it buy it on your AmEx card, keep the receipt, the monthly statement with the purchase and the AppleCare documentation. And if anything happens after yr 3 before the end of yr 4, it’s all covered by AmEx. AWESOME !!!

The Champion juicer is a beast, but it makes juice that is tastier and better for you (more fiber!). You can also use it make baby food if you buy a solid plate to use instead of the mesh strainer.

Unept 24 Sep 08

I love juicing too! My “techniques” may be a bit different than yours, though.

I’m interested in the AppleTV, but afraid to buy an HD device that doesn’t support 1080p.

I don’t think Coke has removed sodium/potassium benzoate yet from Sprite Zero have they? I know they are doing through an effort to remove that from Diet Coke products. Maybe all my fear is unwarranted, but if Coke is worried about it….

It’s great that you guys mentioned Calexico—I have so much love for this band. Make sure you check out the EP they did with Iron & Wine a couple of years ago. Amazing!

JH 24 Sep 08

Worth mentioning too is the Blue Snowball Microphone which Jason, Mark, and myself have been more than impressed with. We use it for the 37signals Live broadcasts, and you can hear Mark using it on the SA Pro podcast.

Mike 24 Sep 08

It must be nice to have the money to buy whatever you want!

Forget juicers – get a high-powered blender and keep all that fruity (or veggie) goodness in what you’re drinking. I picked up a BlendTec almost a year ago. Expensive, yes. My wife thought I was nuts. But we’ve used it almost every single day. Some days two or three times. Far more versatile than a juicer, and more nutritious.

(I neither work nor am paid by BlendTec).

I also really like my Blue Snowball mic.

And @ Mike: no one likes a sourpuss.

Chris Mowforth 24 Sep 08

Guys, forget preppy overpriced american coffee shops and sprite zero, if you’re after a quality caffeine hit then invest in a gaggia E90 and get used to proper coffee. The office wouldn’t be the same without one. Sell your red bull shares now.

Brooks Jordan 24 Sep 08

Thanks for curating, Sarah. Fun, but also amazing what a difference these little details can make in life. Got to get me that bandsaw.

Consume. Less.

You’ll be happier.

@GeeIWonder: Complain. Less.

We will ALL be happier.

GeeIWonder 24 Sep 08

Who’s complaining?

Anonymous Coward 24 Sep 08

I work standing up too, and I’m in the market for an anti-fatigue mat. Can anybody recommend any?

Joe Alba 24 Sep 08

I always wanted to make a Web site or a Facebook app that would make it easy for you to post quick bites like this about products you dig… or products that piss you off. No long-winded reviews or paid-for content. Just a way to say “I use this pretty much every day, and it rocks.” A Twitter of epinions—with some Amazon-style magic for recommendations or just weird statistics. “87% of people that like the Macbook Pro and Dogfish Head IPA also like Grado headphones.” (Isn’t that everyone?)

I keep trying to think of a clever way to keep it clear of people trying to skew the numbers for their own products—and keep it from turning evil.

If one of you smart 37signals readers beat me to it, good luck!

Jason Zimdars 24 Sep 08

@Joe Alba

Someone DID make that:

http://www.blippr.com/

Basically 140-character Twitter-style reviews.

Allan 24 Sep 08

I love my Omega juicer too!

dusoft 24 Sep 08

Please, think about the accessibility and link to last.fm instead of iTunes as people, who don’t have (or can’t have) iTunes installed, can’t see the webpage you are linking to.

Angie Chang 24 Sep 08

a MASTICATING juicer?

ChampionJuicer website sez:

The Champion Juicer is the answer to every juicing problem. Because it operates on the mastication process, the Champion Juicer chews the fibers and breaks up the cells of vegetables and fruits. This give you more fiber, enzymes, vitamins and trace minerals. This all results in the darker, richer color of the juice and a sweeter, richer more full-bodied flavor.

WOW . I want a Fitbit too.

David Andersen 25 Sep 08

Thanks for the Fitbit tip. Gotta git it.

Cameron 25 Sep 08

Yea I was looking at the FitBit. Pretty cool, but not sure quite how acurate the calorie count will be as they are probably using best guess technology to estimate what you are burning.

I am working on a rails project that us something a bit more proactive than FitBit. Probably ready after xmas. Check it out though: http://www.fittr.com

Per Wendelboe 25 Sep 08

The fitbit looks rather promising.

The sleep part is abit lacking though – its great to see the stats I suppose but hwat you really want is to have that control how long you actually sleep and maximize outcome, like the Axbo Sleep Phase Clock:

http://www.axbo.com/axbo/CMS/CMS.aspx?ClientID=wf649002597823246825&SiteID=0&GroupID=8&Language=E

Check it out – it works great!

Don Schenck 25 Sep 08

My new gym membership and the buff body that accompanies it. L)

My Nespresso machine.

My new contact lenses (first pair ever!).

My grandson.

1/20/09.

JF 25 Sep 08

I’ve used the Sleeptracker watch with “great success” (said in a Borat accent).

Druuna 25 Sep 08

Love Beirut, be sure to check out their other full album Gulag Orkestar. The Flying Club Cup dvd is also amazing.

Matt 26 Sep 08

Sarah: good post…

...except for the phrase “Big up” (enough already).

John 26 Sep 08

If one of the Apple TV lovers can take a minute to post the one or two things they love most about it, I’d appreciate it! I think I know why I want one, and it seems like a valid reason to buy, but advice from a happy owner would be quite helpful. Thanks!

Dan 26 Sep 08

Sprite Zero. That is all.

Stu Willis 01 Oct 08

I am also all about the working while standing up. Done it at three companies, don’t want top stop now.

Be curious to where you buy your tables.
